IT WAS LOVE AT FIRST SIGHT

WHEN I MET A BEAGLE

Bucky came into my life when my husband's sister moved to Florida. She also had a Yorkie, and planned on taking that dog with her but not Bucky. I was trying to find a home for the beagle with some friends who had an elderly dog and I thought they might be in the market for a new dog soon. So they said they would watch Buck for 2 weeks while my in-laws were in Florida house hunting. It was a disaster. Sammy, the older dog, humped Buck constantly. Buck was always running away. He stole food and other things and hid with them under the bed, the chair, the table. After less than one week they were at the end of their rope. Being used to an older, less active dog, Buck was driving them crazy, getting into everything, running away. I had already decided I had to have him.

I fell in love with a dog. I thought everything he did was adorable. I thought he was the cutest dog in the world. I couldn't imagine how anyone could not want this dog. My husband and I discussed it. "Dogs are alot of work," he said, "I don't want you complaining about how much work it is." Of course, I'm always complaining about how much work the husband is.

After I got him home, I did realize I knew nothing about dogs, especially beagles, who it turns out are highly stubborn and willful, but completely adorable. I went to the bookstore and bought a book on beagles, then another, then another.

I surfed the web looking for information on beagles. I found Bark like A Dog For Me and later i-barc and Beagles on the Web . Thank goodness for i-barc, where I found that Buck is a fairly typical beagle and learned some things, alot of things about taking care of a beagle. We also went to obedience school. Buck did very well "for a beagle" they said.

I learned I had done everything wrong in getting a dog--I hadn't done any reading or research on the right breed for me. Although Buck and I adored each other, I admittedly didn't know what I was doing so ... I decided to do things differently when I got a cat.

That's right, I remember I started out to tell you how I got two cats... I started surfing the web looking for cat information and found S.A.B.R.E. How I got Cleo is a whole other story!! Cleo's Story. Then there is Cinnamon and Spice's Story
